Wireless setup and internet filtering for students at school

Question:

We need Full WiFi Internet Accessibility in our high school. Most of our students bring their laptops to school, but are not able to connect to the Net on the benches in front of the school on a warm day. In the library, only about three laptops can connect at any one time. Many students who do gain access to the Internet then lock up bandwidth by downloading music, accessing chatrooms or viewing non-educational sites and blacklisting websites does not seem to work.

Linksys and Internet connection disconnecting, needs constant rebooting

Question:

Our Linksys system is constantly going in and out and losing connection. We’ll have to restart it nearly every hour, every day. The Comcast High Speed Internet folks have talked us through restarting everything, checking connection, and have even come out and re-wired the cable cords out of the modem. But the problem persists.

Audacity doesn’t record when it worked correctly before

I used your advice to use Audicity. I copied 15 tapes successfully then rebooted my computer. I could not get Audicity to record again.

CD conversion is one big track instead of multiple individual tracks

Question:

I’m 75 and not very computer “clever!” Downloaded audacity from audio cassttes via microphone socket, exported to Windows Media player etc but does not have any tracks. Now got a CD of 78 minutes but only one track,can’t fast forward or anything apart from play. What have I done wrong? I’m on Windows Vista.

Vista backup does not save prefs.js file (or any other .js file)

…and the title says it all.

This is why I don’t like the “new and improved” backup tool in Microsoft Vista. The old backup from Windows XP and earlier (also known as NTBACKUP.EXE), was ugly, but functional. You just told the program what folders or drives you wanted to backup - or just selected “Everything on this computer” - and you were done. Guaranteed - everything would be backed up.
