Question:

When listening to a playing of an audio casette while recording, I hear both the playback and record audio a millisecond apart, creating a confusing echo. How can I mute one or the other?

I was a formet audio engineer at NBC-TV in Burbank for the news when Tom Brokaw was there. The mixing boards have come eons awy from that era.

Answer:

In Audacity, in Edit->Preferences, you’ll see two checkboxes - “Play other tracks while recording new one”, and “Software Playthrough”. Make sure both of these are unchecked.
