I had just this problem – in my Audacity preferences my sample rate was default 44.1 but 48 on my presonus firepod (or fp10). Set them both to 48kHz and bingo – full volume recording at last! You guys helped me to find it – thanks!

i have the same version of audacity at my other house and i’m using the same mic but the sound waves for my recordings aren’t as large and are much quieter

their both windows 7 computers

If using a mic, don’t forget to check the +20db mic boost in the volume settings. This option is for Windows and Linux users.

I had the exact same problem, all my Audacity recordings were extremely quiet. The problem was that although the recording seemed loud through the speakers, my computer’s volume setting was very low. Clicking on the volume icon next to the time and setting it to the maximum solved my dilemma.
