I ordered the complete Wagon Train series which was supposed to include 55 dvds and 260 episodes from gowestdvd.com. I placed the order in early November. A few days later I emailed them or the staus of my order. They never replied. In fact, the only way I knew they received my order was that they charged my credit card on Nov. 15. Several days later, I tried calling them and got a recording that gave a different name. After calling several times, I finally got through to a real person. They mailed my videos on Dec. 9 but I didn't receive them until Dec. 26. They were going to be a gift for my mom. They only mailed me 20 dvds instead of 55. When I put them in my player, there were many skipped episodes. So I wound up with only 98 episodes out of 260. And the picture and sound were poor quaity plus the TVLand logo was at the bottom of the screen like they taped it from TVLand years ago. They told me they will not refund my money and they also charged my credit card twice but they did remove 1 of the charges after I told them about it. They have other names like Ultra Media Service and the video covers had www.criticschoicevideo.com. So buyers beware of these. I'm afraid to ever buy anything off the internet again!

I found this story which should be of interest to your posters:

Mounties bust fake DVD scam in Montreal
Last Updated: Wednesday, December 19, 2007 | 11:51 AM ET
CBC News
The RCMP have seized thousands of counterfeit DVDs of popular American TV shows and arrested eight people suspected of masterminding a black-market scam to sell the videos.

Mountie investigators raided an undisclosed Montreal location Tuesday where they found thousands of illegal DVD copies of shows like The Six Million Dollar Man and Ally McBeal, as well as 200 DVD burners.

Eight people were arrested and face several fraud charges under the Canadian Criminal Code and Copyright Law.

The RCMP believe the DVDs were burned in Montreal and sold widely across North America through several internet sites.

The counterfeit DVDs were sold at market prices which led buyers to believe they were purchasing original copies.

Canada's national police force warned consumers to be vigilant when buying DVDs online. Counterfeit versions are typically of poorer quality, the RCMP said at a press conference Wednesday.

People who believe they've bought counterfeit versions can contact the RCMP at 1-514-939-8307, or the Canadian Association of Film Distributors at 1-800-363-9166.

I also got scammed by these guys trying to purchase Silver Spoons. I had heard that it had been released and was excited to be getting the entire series. I've subsequently discovered that only the first season has been officially released. My credit card was used for all kinds of unauthorized purchases by these guys before I became aware of it and today, 3 months after I cancelled the card I am still getting notices that they are trying to make purchases in my name with the bad CC number.

In looking into this I encountered info about a member of law enforcement trying to pursue this. (Thanks Andy for a forum to post it) Contact:

William McKay, Constable
Federal Investigation Section
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
4225 Dorchester Boulevard W
Westmount, Quebec Canada H3Z 1V5
Tel: 514 939 8307
Fax: 514 939 8619

These guys operate with listed addresses in both the US and Canada. Hopefully, if US law enforcement won't stop them then the Canadians will!

I placed an order from DVDAvenue. Shortly after my bank closed my account for fraudulent activity. The charge for the DVD did not appear on the account but a higher charge for another item did. It is possible the fraudulent purchase was unrelated to my DVDAvenue order. Apparently someone tried to purchase a gift card from another company with my account. I do find it strange this happened just hours after the DVDAvenue order. Now, after reading others experiences, I have to believe these guys are a fraud.

thanks,
M

<i>Is someone in the US - legal body or consumers - trying to nail these **** and stop the scam?</i>

To my knowledge, no.

I've contacted my state Attorney General's office and formally opened a complaint. They said they can't help because this scam is located outside of my state. I've contacted local and national resources (including consumer protection groups like 20/20), and received no responses. I personally can't use the FTC complaint link referenced at the top of this article because, while I have a lot of data on the scammers, I personally haven't been scammed.

At this point I'm just recommending that anyone who's been scammed deal with their credit card company to get a refund. Let the credit card company sort this out, since it seems no one else wants to.

If anyone has any contacts in appropriate law enforcement or consumer protection agencies, please let me know by posting here or emailing digitalbits@andybrain.com - I'd love to help in any way.

i tried to purchase 2 dvd sets from this site dvd avenue they were not in stock they did not charge my credit card

i thought shipping charges were high but figured it would be worth it as i could'nt find the dvds anywhere else should have done more research usaually im much more carefull but as others i fell for it

barley getting any response from the company and when i did it was about 2 words and qite rude i thought something was fishy so i attempted to cancel the order and thought i had done so in my mind that was that no money had been taken i thought all was good

last weekend i call the bank to ask why my credit card is not working Suprise to me suspusious charges had been attempted on my card luckily the bank was on to it

they tried to take amounts a few times that totaled to over 3 thousand dollars i thought this may have been from a computer virus but after researching and from the date that this happened it narrows down to DVDAVENUE this really worries/infuriates me and i have lost faith and will be even more careful now

PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM ANY OF THESE ABOVE LISTED DODGY DVD COMPANIES

thanks for reading hopefully these companys get taken down

I ordered through google from dvdavenue.tv for The Wonder Years on 9/28/08. When the item did not arrive, I sent a request through google to the seller. I received a response within one day that said it was shipped. The tracking number says it was delivered in August to a address in FL. I tried a live chat with the company, which never materialized. That is when I found this website. I am in the process of confirming and disputing the the credit card company.

What amazes me is that this blog has been noting issues with this commpany for over a year and still the company is not being prosecuted and shut down.

The other issue is that google does not screen the sellers on their web site.

Anyways, I am glad to have found this blog and learned early enough to at least get a refund from my credit card company.

I was scammed by dvdavenue.tv just like the rest. I ordered a DVD set and was in a hurry. Although there were several red flags that caused me to pause - gambling ads on page, general look of web pages, and high shipping, I ordered anyway. What a big mistake. I never received the DVD, my credit card was charged, and I can't get a response from the "company". As an added bonus, within 24 hours of using this website my credit card info was out. Numerous charges from multiple states hit my account before the fraud alarms went off and shut down the card. I'm just beginning to sort out the full depth of the scam. DO NOT ORDER FROM dvdavenue.tv or the related websites. Considering all the posts about this website, I'm amazed it still operates.

I also ordered some dvd's from dvdavenue.tv to the sum of $88. Within 15 minutes of placing the order, I tried to contact them about shipping information, but, guess what: no answer...surprise, surprise. I then found this site with all the other problems listed above, and immediately contacted my credit card company and canceled the card. Filed a complaint w/the FTC also. If it helps in locating these frauds, the package was delivered to my post office for pickup; their return address is now located in Calgary, Alberta. Quite a move from Montreal. I refused the package and had it returned so they have to pay the postage. My credit card co. graciously canceled the charge. Sorry to those who weren't so fortunate. Funny thing though...McAfee's site advisor to this day still gives dvdavenue.tv a green check mark as a safe site, even after I and several others have complained to them to change it to red. That might help others to avoid this site altogether.

I was interested to read the above comments as I have most probably been scammed having naively purchased from dvdstore. If anything turns up it will be unlikely to play by the sounds of it. At least I have taken people's advice as noted above and may get some redress from my bank.

What is REALLY annoying is that I thought they were legit because the links I followed were from the websites of the SF chronicle and Time magazine which did lull me in to false impression.

To ALL

I have made a number of posts regarding these Crooks.

YOU CAN BEAT THESE CROOKS AND SCAM ARTISTS IF YOU TRY.

IT IS A LONG PROCESS BUT YOU WILL SUCCED IN THE END.

IT HAS TAKEN ME 4 MONTHS BUT I HAVE GOT MY MONEY BACK.

The best advice I can give everyone is.

1. Contact your Bank immediately and tell them you have been scammed,
It’s embarrassing but you can’t let these bastards beat you.
All banks have a fraud resolution process.
This process takes 3 to 4 Months so Start straight away.

2. Send whichever incarnation of this company you are dealing with one or two e-mails back to them (although it won't do you any good).
This will give you a reply audit trail if necessary.

DON'T WASTE ANY MORE TIME THAN THIS AS IT WILL ONLY LEAD TO FRUSTRATION.

3. Most bank processes require you to mail the DVD back to the retailer, these crooks won't return your e-mails or send you the return address details, but you can now go back to your bank and say that they won't provide this information.

4. Be determined – It will take time but we all have to FIGHT THESE CROOKS.
The Bank will credit your money back to your Visa card, and then they will debit it back to the retailer,
Then they will eventually credit the money back to you if the retailer doesn’t dispute your complaint.
It is not likely that these crooks will dispute you, and their Bank must get a couple of these disputes a week.

In the end I got back the cost of the DVD's and the cost of the postage to Australia.
So they were out of pocket for ripping me off.

Dear all who have been scamed,

I was ready to pay after selecting over $1600 worth of box set dvd's. It was an expensive move for me but I thought I'll stinge on almost everything for a couple of months and make up for it. And then there site gave me sort of a warning that my ip has been recorded to there records and I thought that was pretty suspicious because it registered unfriendly to me, so I googled the word scam and there company name and all of your comments came up. I cant tell you how grateful I am! If I had paid all that money and it turned out I was taken for a schmuck I might have had a stroke. These people who are behind this are responsible for so much frustration and misery it angers me to bits that they haven't been caught yet.

I wished I'd found this site also. I ordered Chip's T.V. show from dvddonkey. They sent a e-mail the next day with a fake tracking number from the Canada Post. I cant contact them through email or phone.

Please add TVDVDStore.net to the list of scammers. They appear to operate out of Canada, but the merchandise is sent from China. My story is similar to many already posted above. The DVDs I received were pirated copies and did not play on any system. I went to my credit card company after having no success trying to communicate with 'Mike' from TVDVDStore. I had to return the product (to China - the Post Office was able to decode the address!) and my bank placed a charge back to the company and refunded my money. Only then did I receive an immediate e-mail from 'Mike' saying he had already refunded my money in full, and asking why I had involved my bank. The only reason for his communication was because he found he was unable to re-charge me as I had also cancelled my credit card! Got him! It appears from this long list of complaints that almost all of the online websites selling old TV DVDs are scams. Buyers beware!!

I purchased the Dharma & Greg series for DVDAvenue about a year and a half ago and was in contract with them until January of this year trying to get them to send replacement DVD's for the defective ones, at which point they told me they were shipped. Yeah, right! Ever since then I get no reply from them. Is there anything that can be done about this? Also, does anyone know anything about "Unforgettable Tv Shows"? Thank you and GOD bless!

Everyone:

Call your credit card company fraud department and dispute the charges. That is what I finally did, and it worked. The person at the credit card company told me I had just made it under the wire. In the US, you apparently have 120 days to dispute credit card charges. She said one of the tactics of these fraudulent companies is to keep delaying so that the 120 days will run. For example, with me they kept sending emails saying first to allow 6-8 weeks for delivery, and then that the order was on back order and would take another few weeks, and then that that supplier was out but please be patient while they looked for a new supplier. The emails were so friendly and semi-plausible that it took me a while to realize that I was being scammed.

Actually, Warlock Videos came up off of the Amazon Website, I guess that's what amazed me so much, and I didn't really think much about it until I got the series I ordered. "Vengeance Unlimited." I had many of the same problems: poor quality, taken off TV, some of the commercials uncut, one DVD wouldn't even work at all. The other copies were flaky, static on them. What a joke -- after I received them, I went back to the website and they indicated they "believed the shows to be in the public domain."

Wanda~KEEP TRYING!!! I probably sent 10 cancellations messages within 2 days. I left multiple messages on their "voice mail," left messags on their chat lines(even though there was no response), cancelled via their order confirmation e-mail, and cancelled through another e-mail sent to their "contact us," location on their web site. In addition, my e-mail (exerpts contained in a posting on Jan 19,2008; feel free to utilize it or any portion of it!)contained some legal sounding language. Then when I notified my card company, I was told that the charge had to remain until there was evidence that I had attempted to cancel the order (copies of my cancellation e-mails and attempts), and 30 days had passed. After that, I could dispute the charge and at that time it could be removed. BUT I was lucky enough to have dvddonkey cancel the order with the multiple requests I sent in. DON'T GIVE UP! Be aggressive with both dvddonkey (or whichever morphed version you are dealing with)and assertive with your credit card company. I know the cc companies are all different, but keep trying! Mine was on a Bank of America card, and they were really nice. I called so many times that I eventually was given a direct number to the fraud department! I even asked them to review this website so that they would no longer allow these companies to charge and the woman said she would send on the information to their headquarters, but obviously that did not do the job! I wish you luck.

DON’T GIVE UP!

I ordered the complete Walker Texas Ranger series from DVDAvenue.TV. I did receive a complete package but only half of the dvd's had anything on them. I have tried calling only to receive a message "not in service at this time." My credit card was billed immediately after order was place, while I was receiving a message that it was not approved. Now I own an incomplete series which makes it very expensive.
To: CK...I did this, I canceled the order immediately and called my credit card company. This did not work...the company would not cancel, even though they said it wasn't approved and my credit had been charged so they could not do anything. Best thing is to check it out before ordering or giving any information out.
My question is why, if this is an illegal product in the U.S.A., is it going through our Post Office?

To further Pete's comments, my problem with dvddonkey was also the security of the site. I had my credit card fraudulently used within 36 hours after placing an order on dvddonkey. There were charges placed on Yahoo messenger which were not charged by me and, fortunately, my credit card company noticed them right away and called me to check, so that is another way these crooks are ripping people off. Anyone ordering from any company associated with these guys should keep a close eye on their bills and watch to be sure strange activity is not occuring on their bill. I feel very lucky that I had a credit company that was aware, eliminated those charges and informed me right away. I immediately cancelled my order, my credit card, and never had to deal with the junky product that is sent, and luckily, had the dvd charge reversed after a "chat" with one of their "customer service" representatives.... Bottom line... DON'T ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! But if you did, CANCEL IT IMMEDIATELY and contact your credit card company to keep an eye out for fraud.

As of May 13, 2008 -- there is an even more serious problem with dvdavenue.tv than what folks are mentioning here -- even though selling defective pirated DVDs is bad enough! But today I found their site and was actually about to plunk down almost $100 on their site -- when I noticed that their "secure" site really isn't secure. There is not SSL encryption even though they claim there is.

Another reason to avoid this site!

I ordered a set of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" which was supposed to include all episodes fro A.H. Hour and A.H.Presents. The DVDs were numbered differently but identical episodes were on several of them, and other episodes were missing. The cases were completely cracked when I received them. They promised replacements and for over 18 months I have called and e-mailed but they never do what they promise.

I have got a number of these e-mails as well
I assume that they may have got my e-mail address
from my original order.

I appears the be a NEW SCAM FROM THE SAME CROOKS

Note yours was from boxsetblowout.com
Mine was from service@boxsetbarn.com

I have checked out their websites and although it appears that their websites are laid out differently to their usual format, lets not give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the following websites should be avoided at all costs

http://www.boxsetblowout.com/
http://www.boxsetbarn.com/

These Crooks regularly rebirth their websites under a new name and format and we should assume that this is their latest effort.

This was an example of the e-mail I received

From: service@boxsetbarn.com

Subject: New TV Shows available on DVD

Hey there TV Fan!

This is an update on the new TV shows that you can now get in dvd
box sets from us. We are very excited to be offering a bunch of
new releases, popular favourites, and quite a few classic tv shows
too.

We know that there are quite a few websites out there selling TV
shows on DVD who are less than reputable, so let me tell you a
little bit about us:

- all orders are processed within 48 hours on working days
- you get a tracking number the same day the order is shipped, so
you can track your package right to your door.
- our DVDs are of original quality, and they come in Collector's
boxes with full artwork and features.
- 100% guaranteed to work on your DVD player, or we give back ALL
of your money when your product is returned to us.
- our prices are among the lowest out there
- our service is better than anyone else in the industry in terms
of response time, resolution of issues, and professionalism.

OK, enough bragging... Check us out and see for yourself. To
help you get started with your first order, use the promo code
''first-order" and you'll get $5 off when you're checking out.

http://www.boxsetblowout.com is where you need to go.

Thanks and feel free to contact me.

Here's a follow up on my previous post. I finally got my refund a week or so later after posting. However, recently my bank account (which they posted the money back to) had $1800 withdrawn. Someone apparently tried to purchase two computers, but they didn't go through after a week or so due to insufficient information. I'm not sure if it is connected to my purchase from dvdavenue.tv, but if I were you I would not take a chance on it.

I wish I'd found this site before I ordered my DVDs!! I feel so stupid!

I ordered a complete boxset of Seaquest DVDs for a friend of mine because she doesn't have a credit card (I'm in the UK). That was back in December. It is now nearly May and the last email I had from the company (or companies?) was in February!! My order is allegedly on the back order, but they took the money off my card in December and of course I haven't had anything through!

I should've realised something was dodgy when I received emails from 3 different email addresses:
tvdvdworld.tv,
tvaddicts.tv,
DVDcraze.tv

I sent an email a month ago demanding a refund, but guess what - I've not heard a peep out of them at all! I also tried ringing the different phone numbers I was given by them, and neither of them worked. Oh, and the LivePerson chat-thing doesn't seem to be live anymore! I've sent loads of messages to them and not had anything back.

I'm currently in the process of trying to get the money back from my account. Apparently you can do something called Chargeback, which is when the creditcard company give you the refund and try and get the money back from the company themselves. Hope it works! I feel so stupid for getting duped by them. I just wish there was a way to get this company stopped!

I too have been scammed by this company and wished I had found your site before handing over my hard earned to these crooks.
I purchased the complete series of Get Smart DVD's and when they eventually arrived (same as above bogus shipping confirmations and alike) they weren’t new and original as promised.
But were the worst copies imaginable together with blank CD's ? and wrong TV series DVD’s.
I found it hard to believe that anyone this crooked could be so incompetent with product they provide (especially when you look at their quite legitimate looking websites).

They now have used a process where apart from never returning any E-Mails they close the on line chat session once my E-mail address is entered so that they don’t have to deal with me.

I have followed up this Scam with my Bank and have asked for a refund on my
credit card for the full amount under their Dispute Credit Card transaction process.

I hope that I have the same success as some of you others have had and I intend taking these
matters up with both Google and their service provider.

Part of letter to Google :-
How can you people allow Scammers like the following companies to come out on your search engine as sponsored links (and by association with your company as preferred sellers)
surely you can't be that short of sponsors and their money.

DVDDonkey.com
TVAddicts.TV
UltimateDVDshop.com
DVDHits. (?)
Allmyfavouriteshows.com
DVDAvenue.TV
DVDStore. (?)
TVBoxset.com
877-tv-series. (?)
TVDVDPlanet.net
TVondisc.com
tvdvdcraze.tv
tvmilk.com
unique-dvd.com

I have added the following links for one of your senior management to investigate as there appear to be thousands of complaints registered.

I too wish to advocate the end of the scam. I purchased the wonder years series a couple of months ago only to receive a couple of blanks and few others that were from the "sister sister" series. I couldn't get a hold of the company with live chat and there wasn't a number on the site to reach them. I emailed them a couple of times and heard nothing. how frustrating.

So I called the cretid card company and they told me that they would take care of it but know because their are so many the goverment will step in and help. The more people come forward the more the problem will get resolved.

Some good news: I filed a complaint with my credit card company describing my case (see previous comments). They sent me a form which I completed and I also attached my correspondence (mail and copies of Live Chat) with DVDavenue.tv. A month later a got a 100% refund so credits to my credit card company! I do not know however if the scammers had to pay or in any other way were affected.
