I have windows updates since 2005. I started to remove them and a screen comes up and says it might harm a bunch of other programs. Can I go ahead and remove them?? I would like to get rid of all these years of updates to clean my computer up.

I used to run Vista, it had terrible problems especially with general working speed and sound failures. A friend helped me to uninstall and replace the system with XP. Then I learned to work Image for DOS, there I have two hard drives which work together, and it works 10 times faster and more efficiently.
Also I have repeated problems with updates for XP, which slow the computer down and seem to clog it up and all I need to do is restore the earlier image which worked really well. Now I am not sure how important the updates are, or what they are really for, or are supposed to do, because they do the opposite of making things better!

BE CAREFUL!! I have heard that uninstalling Updates in the wrong order can have bad results. I have not tried to remove any Updates as of yet, so I dont know for sure. Now I have a question. Do Updates take up alot of disk space?
The reason I ask is that I have noticed on my system (an Acer Aspire 3100)that I lose a deal of disk space after every update. All updates are ask for permission first so I see them all and watch them download. Im running Vista Home Basic. Any ideas where to begin searching for my lost disk space?
