How to make a karaoke song and remove song vocals
Question:
I have a question. I downloaded Audacity per your site but don’t have a clue. I want to remove vocals from a song that I have rewritten for my kids to sing for my wife. Are you able to help at all.
Answer:
You have a few options. I’d suggest you start by reading this column I wrote about - among other things - making your own karaoke songs.
It talks about how to remove vocals from a song. Yes, you can indeed do this using Audacity. Or you can use a commercial software program (in the case of my article above, “Music Morpher Pro”). Audacity is rather limited in what it can do and Music Morpher Pro will probably work a little better, but will cost you money. However, Music Morpher Pro also has a trial option so you can at least see how will it will work with the music you’d like to work with.
Note that these software packages are not perfect. I’ll explain this by quoting from the Music Morpher Pro website:
“…users should not expect this software to remove vocals 100% of the time. In most cases, however, it will successfully remove vocals. Sometimes it might sound as if the vocal has not been completely removed; however when the user inserts their own voice, or if the file is then used as a karaoke tune, the listeners will only hear the new voice along with the original music.”
To put it simply, I’d say give Audacity or Music Morpher Pro a try, using the instructions I link to in my article above.
Good luck!

Finding your web site gives me hope in creating music for my church choir. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
