Sony camcorder won’t finalize

Question:

I have a Sony camcorder, mini DVDs that I have had 3 different discs tell me there is a “Disc Error” prior to finalizing disc. I am not even able to view disc on camera (to then possible burn to another DVD). It doesn’t allow me to do anything with disc, yet you can see that info. has been recorded on the DVD. If you have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated (besides the fact that I need a new camera!).

Answer:

Unfortunately, I’m thinking that regardless of the problem, the outcome will be that you need to fix or replace your camcorder. If you want to find where the problem is, then you need to do a little compare and contrast: grab a couple other disks that you’ve recorded in the past, ones that you know are working fine.

Put those disks in the camcorder and try to view the videos they contain. Here are the possible results:

If the discs work, and they play back properly without a “Disc error” message, then you know there’s a problem with the camcorder’s recording mechanism.

If the discs don’t work, and the camera also generates an error when you try to play them, then there’s a problem with the camcorder’s playback mechanism.

The first option still leaves you with a partially working camera, where even if you can’t record any more you can still play back. The second option will most likely mean the camera is broken pretty much beyond use, and will need to be repaired or replaced.

Order the program CD roller which I saw when I searched this topic. I have the same problem with 3 disks, on a Sony. All the rest work OK. It’s not the camera, just a problem with some of the disks. Maybe if you just use Sony disks there would not be a problem.
