THIS SOLUTION DEFINITELY WORKS TO GET RID OF THE ECHO DURING THE RECORDINGS:

Turn off those options and see if it makes a difference: In Audacity, open the “Edit” menu and go to “Preferences”. Click the “Audio I/O” tab. UNCHECK the boxes for “Play other tracks while recording new one” and “Software playthrough“. Then try recording again.

THANK YOU TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHO POSTED THIS INFORMATION UP. IT WAS VERY HELPFUL! THANKS ONCE AGAIN :-)

what you need is an auto slitter. a program that splits big files into smaller sections. then burn all the separate files and wala you have separate tracks.. I know at churches most of the time they never seperate the tracks while recording.. there are several free ones out there. do a search for auto splitting or mp3/ wav splitting. i currently am trying avs.. good luck.

Glad I came across this website and I want to thank all those who have contributed their comments. Does anyone know anything about a site called muchdvd.com? Wondering if they are on the level...or just another fraudulent site (?). Oh, and Good Luck to everyone who registered a complaint. It's amazing how many people will take advantage of others these days and it's also a sad note!

Aaarghh!

Just worked out what the problem is.

Even if you select part of a track, the Effect menu WILL NOT WORK IF THE PAUSE BUTTON IS PRESSED! So you think you've stopped the track, but in fact you only paused it...

This is a bit hard to spot - I'd even read something related to this in the help and didn't realise this was my problem - maybe a tooltip to help people who click the Effect menu with a track paused?

Cheers, hope this helps the guy above.

Hmmm. Nope, I get exactly the same problem. I've sampled a CD, it's a wav file, now I'm dragging the mouse to select a part of the audio clip (it goes kind of greyer), but all the entries on the "Effect" menu are still greyed out.

Lots of other menu items are inactive too - I mean ones you'd expect to be active, like "Cut", "Copy" and "Paste" under the "Edit" menu - luckily there are toolbar buttons for these (which _are_ working, even though the menu versions aren't).

Maybe it's a bug, but the only time I've seen this has been with trial versions of software. I'll look around and see if there's a paid-for version of Audacity, as I really need a destructive audio trimmer, and this looks ideal, if I can get it to work.

Cheers.

I ordered dvds from dvd avenue. I waited a week for the shipping confirmation and started making phone calls and emails to them. When I got the "electronic runaround", I searched for anyone having problems with these people. I found this web site and immediately called my credit card company. I hadn't been charged as yet so we cancelled my card on the spot. I'm so glad I got suspicious and looked for help!

I used to run Vista, it had terrible problems especially with general working speed and sound failures. A friend helped me to uninstall and replace the system with XP. Then I learned to work Image for DOS, there I have two hard drives which work together, and it works 10 times faster and more efficiently.
Also I have repeated problems with updates for XP, which slow the computer down and seem to clog it up and all I need to do is restore the earlier image which worked really well. Now I am not sure how important the updates are, or what they are really for, or are supposed to do, because they do the opposite of making things better!

"The Untouchables," 1959 to 1962, was my all-time favorite television program when I was a teenager. I ordered the 22 disc, 118 episode set and was surprised to find out that 14 of the episodes were either "The Muppets" or "Grizzly Adams." In addition, 8 other episodes were defective and stopped during the middle of the show.

You can imagine my bewilderment when "The Muppets" and "Grizzly Adams" shows popped up on the DVD instead of "The Untouchables." I tried unsuccessfully to get either a refund or another DVD box set. I will never order anything over the internet again. DVD Avenue.TV is corrupt, incompetent and dishonest.

Hi everyone,

I think this is the time to close the thread. We moved beyond the original topic and have dropped down to political bashing of individuals and institutions, which I have no interest in doing for this particular conversation. The topic is "The Story of Stuff" and the ideas it presented. Thanks to everyone for their comments and intellect - your time spent on this thread was appreciated!

I cannot believe they are showing this politically biased crap in schools. They make capitalism seem so terrible. And I quote "it is the Governments job to take care of us" NO IT IS NOT!!!! It is your job to take care of you, Its the Governments job to grant us life, liberty and the pusuit of happiness. THATS IT NO MORE NO LESS!!!! My daughter told me she saw this at her school and after hearing what she said I had to see it for myself then had to totally point out all the lies and she said well then that was a waste of time even watching it, I said thats right it sure was.

We watched "Story of Stuff" tonight and must admit, as expected, that it is the biggest bunch of bull we have ever seen. Just another sign of what our kids are seeing, and being taught, in the govt. schools. It goes right along with the way obama feels about our country. He is doing his best to destroy our country and stuff like "Story of Stuff" is helping him. I would say God help our country but I think it is too late. Aren't you and your ilk happy about that.

It all depends on how far down you're willing to go. When you say "CPU" to one person, they think "chip". Say it to someone else, they think "motherboard". A third person, they think "that box on my desk". They don't get that there's something inside that can be subdivided, and there may be issues with just replacing that subdivided piece.

As for the chip level -- YES, some machines use standardized sockets. But many do not. Especially if you want to go from an Intel chip to a cheaper, but more modern, AMD chip. They don't necessarily fit the same form factor. And the original answer was correct that OTHER pieces may still keep you from realizing the full potential of even a plug-compatible CPU chip. If you put a 440-horse V8 with a Holly 4-barrel in a 3-speed Pinto, it's still going run like a 3-speed Pinto. A LOUD 3-speed Pinto, but a 3-speed Pinto. You need a new transmission, a high-performance clutch, and probably a new rear end. And better tires and suspension might help, too.

Now we're talking "motherboard" level. that's the circuit board inside that the chips all plug into, and your expansion boards stick up from. It'll support faster memory, and won't hold your new, faster processor back from doing it's best. but you may be able to use most or even all of your old expansion cards, the power supply, drives, and case, without modifying anything. But it'll cost a bit more. Too much more, or if too many expansion boards are obsolete, and you'll start thinking about replacing that whole box with a new one.

But you'll still be able to move your hard drives if they've got room in them to spare, perhaps your optical drives, and your monitor may still be ok. And chances are your network card will be ok. Ditto the keyboard and mouse. Unless you've changed your needs so much that NONE of the computer meets them anymore, you should be able to keep some of it.

Or if you're just Johnny Whiz-Bang, and need the biggest, baddest, and newest of everything, throw the old one in the dumper, and buy all new gear as soon as it's on Engadget. But that's expensive and wasteful.

i agree that it was part good part bad. the portrayal of entrepenuers as evil soured me. that to want to live as well as you can is somehow selfish did too. it could have been more positive without casting such a dark light on so many good people.

The "Toshiba Hotkey utility for Display Device" did not end the error window. I could not find some of the other drivers listed above. But, I did download the "Toshiba ACPI Common Modules for Windows XP" driver, installed it, and this one did the trick. Thanks, again, to the first person who wrote this all up.

Thank you also. However, for the next person, heads up that the Toshiba website has changed. You may find the following steps helpful.

1. Determine the exact type, model, and O/S of your computer
2. Remove old utility file as noted above
3. Click above "Toshiba's laptop support" link to go to Toshiba Support
4. Click Download button
5. Chose your Category, Family, and Model, and click GO
6. Refine the search results by choosing Operating System, and "Display".
7. Click Title link "Toshiba Hotkey Utility for Display Device"
8. Click Download Now
9. In popup, click Save File. This is an executable
10. Locate download and run .exe
11. Click setup and file will install.
12. Retart computer (which I'm about to do, so let's hope it works

I tried all of the above to no avail - however I discovered that it was in fact my audio cable that was malfunctioning.
I used jack plugs for the first recordings, and for some reason the jack only made proper contact with the cable itself when pulled halfway out.

I resolved this by just using the MONO cable, which needed no jack plug, and as if by magic, the echo vanished - not just from Audacity but from the PC playback as a whole.

Hope this helps someone else too...

When it comes down to it all RESPONSIBLITY is the name of the game. Are we to be responsible for the horrible problems of the world? Responsiblity ends where one can not control the situation.

So what can we control? Many can recycle. Many can write letters to those with higher levels of responsiblity - whether they be corporations (that we purchase articles) or representatives of our State.

These are just some basic concepts - America is known for her inventiveness! So, be inventive!

In other words: Doing SOMETHING in a positive way is better than doing NOTHING. I am very happy that Ms. Leonard is doing something - even if it entertains or angers me. Actually, she's done more than I will probably do in my life time on ecology but she isn't responsible for me - she is only responsible for herself! Only I can be responsible for me. When I look in my mirror I don't see Ms. Leonard I see myself. I need to answer for all that I do to Mother Earth that is in my control.

I'm glad Ms. Leonard reminded me of the "toxins" that are everywhere because too much of a concentrated toxin can be deadly. (The plant watered by floride, the plant ate by the cow, the cow's milk drank by MY child and same cow's meat ate by MY child which is now super floridated and at a deadly toxic level.) No, Ms. Leonard didn't give this example but simply stated "toxins." Need I discuss hormones and antibiotics induced in chickens and their “toxic” effects on my child?

Again, I need to be as informed a parent as I possibly can be because my child trusts that I already am a responsible person. I hope that I really am!

Backup and Restore, put simply, just doesn't work on Vista Home Premium.
Many files are not backed up, and dangerously it leads you to believe that the backup was successful! I have just learnt from this forum that it doesn't do .exe and other files!

Home Premium doesn't even do complete backups.

It is not up to the job of trying to be a professional operating system. A basic requirement of an operating system for the past 50 years has been the task of backing up (& restore if ever needed).

Without this it should not even be released to Beta Testing.

It is not "fit for purpose" (a legal consumer phrase in the UK) and you should get your money back from the supplier.

It is not up to the job of trying to be a professional operating system. A basic requirement of an operating system for the past 50 years has been the task of backing up (& restore if ever needed).

Without this it should not even be released to Beta Testing.

It is not “fit for purpose” (a legal consumer phrase in the UK) and you should get your money back from the supplier.

Wow, that really bites. What are they thinking? When i finally find a job...B of A will not be getting my money.

Recently someone got the no and pin for my husbands card. They call and ask to talk to him, but he's at work. But seeing how my name is on the card and if god forbid anything happens to him, i am the one responsible for all and any debt incurred, a naturally thought, well i can handle this now, no prob.

Wrong...prob...becos i am a "at home mom"...i have no status till it comes time for payment...and was told 'no we can't talk to you...we have to talk to your husband'.

If i am gonna be treated as a second class citizen becos i don't get paid for the 24/7 18 year stint of employment i do...then B of A can go to hell.

Anthony, it sure does sound as the scumbags described above! You should however have a decent chance of getting your money back from your bank/credit card issuer if you provide them with the details (any mail, slips, an account of what happened etc). I did and got a full refund from Mastercard/GE Capital under their fraud policy.

Best of luck.

After reading these complaints I am wondering if I have an offshoot of these frauds.I was scammed by planetdvdstore.com. Ordered a complete set of Perry mason at the cost of over 114 dollars.Found out they made an extra debit at my bank for some type of border change. We had no idea these dvds were coming from China.I called them up and threatened them they better not add anymore debits and better remove the one. They promised to credit it back but never did. They took forever to get here then they were obviously pirate copies copied from the tv and amatueris. Some did not even work and were copied from tv stations as you could see their icons in the bottom right of the screen. They came with packing slips from China and discribed as clothing and priced at 20.00.Complete fruads. The really bad thing is we lost all our records of the transactions because our pc was fried by a freak lightening storm.Do you think there is a coinnection between this web site and the others. Sounds to much alike to not be.

Wow this site is great! This will be one of numerous complaints I file against Comcast. I am a really nice person and I could not be any more angry than I am currently. I moved on June 11th down the street and simply wanted to transfer my service over. On the first appointment the technician said he did not have a long-enough cable to complete the installation. I said I have one at the old house and will be back in 5 minutes. He said ok. When I came back, he was gone! I called support, they said the techs have to stay on a schedule but they can reschedule the appointment. The next appointment I was ready for them, they didn't show up. I called and they said the tech called to say he was on his way and no one responded. I was in a place where I don't have signal but I would have been home at the appointment time for the entire window. The 3rd time, the guy simply didn't show. No call, no nothing. I called support and without apology they said they don't know why nobody came but all they can do is reschedule me. I asked for a supervisor and they hung up on me. I immediately ordered DirecTV and that has been installed successfully, the first time! But still no internet. I made another appointment since Comcast has a monopoly on internet here, and they finally came about 2 weeks later. 3 weeks for the first appointment date I got internet. Then I got my bill and it showed that my request for cable cancellation had not been received, AND they decided to start charging me for renting their modem, which I never did. I called 1800Comcast, and they said it was the wrong department and transferred me to Maryland, Maryland said since I lived in DC I would need a different number, and for some reason I got transferred to NY! They said sorry and transferred me back to 1800Comcast, who finally got me to the cancellations department...after 4 hours of holding and transferring!!! The cancellations department said everything was fixed. Then I got another bill-no changes. I went for the Live Chat and after doing that for an hour she said it's all fixed hahaha. I just got my bill: $236.10 Nothing has been fixed, modem still on their, no payment credits, no missed service credit, cable still being charged, internet not prorated for June. And some late fees! I just contacted Live Support again. They said there is nothing they can do but a supervisor will be contacting me soon. Yeah right, I'm not holding my breath.

I was sent this video, and after watching decided to find out more about it, because some of it seemed biased to me. I enjoyed your critique, because you discussed the positives and negatives. You confirmed my suspicion that it is at least somewhat biased, as well as overblown and simplistic.
Didn't have time to read the comments, so I'm not sure if anyone commented about the house size. The better way to say it is that the average size of new construction has doubled over the past couple of decades. The average size of new homes is about 2,500 square feet. Can't remember what it was in 1970 or 1980, but in 1950 it was about 800 square feet. It has been increasing steadily for the past 50 or 60 years. With households getting smaller -- and so many of us getting older -- we expect to see that trend start to reverse, especially with the increase in New Urbanist, mixed use development. With her Master's degree in Planning, Ms. Leonard should know that.

I wish to heaven that I had found this site before I placed an order through the so-called legit company called "DVDAvenue.TV" unfortunately I didn't and I placed an order for the complete series of "Medic"
My emails to this "company" are just looping back to the mail delivery server for Yahoo! And being in the UK I won't even think about trying to phone them. I just hope my credit card can do something.
We have to stop these people before it's too late!

I thought everything was going along well -- I have my Tape2PC hooked up to my Mac per the enclosed instructions, I recorded the songs onto Itunes and it seemed to be fine. But then I played the digital recording back to hear my voice singing along with the songs on the digital version -- and the recording was poor at best. Help!! Please.

ok TO The Writer of this article:
I'm glad you did do a review on this piece though You seem to lack most of the knowledge it's understandable considering (i'm just assuming) your not an expert.

We're Running Out Of Resources! That is bad;
"The USA also produces 27% of the world’s GDP. 30% of resources, 27% of GDP: this seems to be a good measure of our efficiency, not waste. Any economists out there who can explain to me why this is bad?"
The reason that this is bad is because more and more countries are becoming developed (not the ones we go to war with obviously) but as things progress more and more people are eating up the world's resources think 5% using 30% of the resources and other countries that are catching up will be doing the same we'll need more resources yet we live in a finite amount of resources planet. An economist would tell you that we are doing good because while we are doing good it won't be that way forever as we'll run out of resources. I don't see how you can't put that together lmao.

As For flame retardent chemicals and other chemicals she even stated that we have no idea what the effect is on humans if it's positive or negative, though she did say "toxic" and implied that putting our heads on toxins was a practice that happens daily.. I do agree though she does have a point there are many toxins that we put into our consumer products. Lead being one of them. While people hate china for having "Excessive" amounts of lead we also do put lead in our paint as well, the important aspect of this part is that there are many chemicals that can .. when combined with other chemicals cause us harm and there is rarely enough done (studies ect) by our big corporations to make sure that it's safe even when mixed with the already existant chemicals that we have.
You also noted that many of us have lead arsenic ect and things we picked up from our environment, how can this be good? Lol, that's the whole point of "toxic toxic toxic" it's because these chemicals are getting into our body. Also let's take note that the "rate of cancer" has increased exponentially over the past few decades (thought it could be just that we are able to test for cancer better than ever) Even if our mortality ratings are lower and we live longer.

I'm just gonna end here as I don't really feel like continuing lol already spent over an hour on a 20 minute video.

Lol someone said big corporations aren't trying to trick us into buying their crap.
Think for a second;
How much do they pay to advertise their logos' on shows like Ally McBeal or Sex in the City or whatever show (I don't watch tv) or even NBA logos icons. How much do they pay for athletes to drink gatorade or powerade or wear shoes. How many times have you seen people say oh they got new "Jordans" or "whatever product" out and they begin to describe the specs as if your old one was out of date and not worthy of being used.
How much do advertisers pay to use psycology to sell a product?
Do you know that the reason McDonalds is red and yellow is because it makes people hungry?
I'm sorry but as for big corporations not pulling EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK to get you to buy their product, I believe that is entirely false. they will trick you, they will do anything as you are their paycheck and without you their branch is closed and they lose their jobs.

I agree with Eva Galloway;
The fact is the processor/motherboard/video cards/ram should be built off of pre-existant systems and should incorporate future systems to save on resources. Yet the big corporations are not reigned in and are allowed, no not just allowed, encouraged to go through this spend spend spend consumption disfunction and thus there are many companies who make a new part better than the old but can only connect to "certain" other parts, and the loser of that would be Us the consumers having to upgrade our computers or buying new ones. While I do think it's vital that our companies continue researching new better things, the cost of those newer items is out of our consumer pockets.
Same with cell phones, (Actually cell phones are 100x's worse!) over the years you "Have to" buy new phones you have to buy new installations and services to keep uptodate. Rather than promoting Upgrades to your existing phones they always promote newer better models. it's ridiculous. how many times do you see(i live in ny) little teens with their side kick or touch phone that has internet access and their viewing youtube videos, or their texting away with their friends? I think it buys into exactly what Annie is saying, happiness is going down and so is our natural resources. While it may be "economically" best for us to continue this path more and more countries are following in our foot steps and when the world is at the point we are right now what happens then?

My brother just emailed me the "Story of Stuff" video. While I agree with the message, the scare tactics caused me to question some of the details. I found your informative articles when probing for further details.

You made a statement that plays into Ms. Leonard's message:
"And if you’re willing to spend the money to do that, you might as well get a brand new PC anyway."

Our consumer world continually tells us not to repair...toss it and buy a new one.
Classic example: I should not have to get a new phone when my battery no longer holds a charge. But the phone store will tell you that the replacement battery costs more than a new phone (uh...with a renewal contract).

"If you’re willing to spend the money [to fix something], you might as well get a brand new [one]" is exactly the mindset that contributes to the problem.
