To anyone interested in making sure our species and countless others survive past the next couple centuries, I recommend reading Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It’s incredibly informative and has me thinking it’s not too late yet to make a difference.

That used to be true, but Dragon Naturally Speaking (DNS) 10+ seems to have worked around that. Of course you still have to proof read the text (an example used in the DNS doc’s – “go to room B40″ – may come out as “go to room before tea”).

I bought the least expensive of DNS a year ago after giving up on speech to text software a few years ago. And was very pleasently surprised with new program. A bigger concern to me would be the quality of the voice recorders output. To really get good results with DNS I bought a GOOD Plantronics headset.

I wonder how many people have suffered because of Vista..

I installed a Lynksis WRT120N router. The router configured ok and is secure. The trouble is, two laptops with Windows XP could not log on. A macbook pro laptop logged on with no problems. Could you advise me what to do next?

Sometimes you might be stuck in a situation where you have recording where the first half of the track is in sync but is out of sync later at certain parts. You can select long notes in their performance to do a slight tempo stretch. Select just a sliver that doesn’t have much distinguishing about it and go to Effects>Change Tempo. This will preserve the tone of the audio but time stretch it, which will push the following audio further out in time, re-syncing it. It’s easiest to experiment with this to find the right percentage of change you want to apply to the clip to get the rest of your track to sound in place.

An annoying part about doing this is any envelopes you have applied to this sliver of audio will be reset to 100%, but that’s an easy fix.

I had just this problem – in my Audacity preferences my sample rate was default 44.1 but 48 on my presonus firepod (or fp10). Set them both to 48kHz and bingo – full volume recording at last! You guys helped me to find it – thanks!

note that the network problem is only for one network device… i can connect to everything normaly, just i got disconnected with one device from time to time, while others keep connected very well…
and note that i dont have a problem with this device, it is connected properly with others pc on the same network…

is this problem due to some updated files for windows?

the click tracks that generate in audacity are actually what is causing your recordings to be off, because the click track generator is slightly off from an actual metronome. if you make a click track in audacity, try to play a metronome to the click track and see if it lines up. most likely it wont, and i dont know why no one at sound forge hasnt figured this out yet.
