Free wireless, hackers, and protecting your communications with encryption

Question:

Today on Fox News web site was an article about vulnerability to hackers of many free wi-fi internet systems that put travelers on vacation at risk when they use their computer on these systems. Since I’ll be doing that to log in to my home computer, I’m wondering if there are any security measures I can implement when using my laptop on vacation when logging in to my office from hotels, etc.?

Will an iPod Touch slow down a computer?

Question:

I have a friend whose daughter purchased a 32GB iPod touch and it has slowed down their computer tremendously. My son would like to get the 16 GB iPod touch and I can’t seem to get a consistent answer from the Apple people about how it would affect our computer. My daughter has a 4GB nano and my son has a 16GB nano also. They share an iTunes account. Do you know anything that can help me? Is it needing a ton of hard drive space to just save all the downloads from i-tunes? Or is the issue something else?
