BlackBerry phone Internet filtering and monitoring
Question:
I have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (a BES) or BlackBerry Professional Server (BPS). I need to prevent my users from browsing the web on their BlackBerry phones. How do I set up BlackBerry Internet monitoring and filtering?
Answer:
By default, when you attach a BlackBerry phone to a BES, the phone will automatically have the BlackBerry Browser assigned as the default browser. All BlackBerry browser traffic is routed through the BES. So, if you want to monitor or filter, you need to disable all other browsers, and set up a monitor/filter on your BES hardware.
To disable all browsers (except for the BB Browser), and have all Internet traffic run through the BES / BB Professional server:
Set the policy:
Browser Policy Group -> Allow IBS Browser: FALSE
Device-Only items -> Enable WAP Config: FALSE
Service Exclusivity Policy Group – Allow Other Browser services :FALSE
If you want to disable ALL internet browsing from a BlackBerry, set the policy as above, but also disable the BlackBerry Browser.
