ThinkVantage System Update install problem: The wizard was interrupted before System Update could be completely installed.

Comment:

Many thanks for posting the info under this topic (ThinkVantage System Update tool allows easy updating of software drivers for Thinkpad / Lenovo PCs) ….(I was short of the Net Framework). Sorted.

Answer:

Great, I’m glad it helped, and thanks for letting me know!

The .NET Framework 2.0 or newer is required for the ThinkVantage System Update tool. If you don’t have .NET installed, the System Update install will fail. Unfortunately, it’s not documented as well as it should be, and the error message is pretty vague:

The wizard was interrupted before System Update could be completely installed.”

I got hit by that problem myself, which is why I decided to document it properly. The thing is, this issue will happen frequently when rebuilding a PC – a user may very well install the System Update Tool to get the latest drivers installed before installing any Windows updates (like the .NET Framework). I know that’s what I did.

Thank you for documenting this. You were the first hit that came up in my Google search. I thought that would have been installed since I’d already put in XP Service Pack 3, but alas, no.

If you already have the .NET Framework 2.0 or newer and it doesn’t work, the problem could be in a disabled service. By me it was TVTScheduler.exe. Go to services.msc and you will see…
