Cables and soundcards for tape to PC recording

Question:I have a laptop with only USB connections. I have a sound card and a burner but I can’t make the connection using any of the instructions I’ve read about.

What do I need to get a cable from my portable cassette player to my USB laptop?

I hope to hear from you, I really need the help. I have a lot of old time radio tapes I’d love to convert instead of replace.

Answer:

If you have a laptop with a sound card (as you say you do), you should have a microphone jack that you can use to do the recording. Here’s a link describing what the microphone jack is.

If for some reason, your microphone jack isn’t working, or isn’t available, here’s a link giving info on a replacement USB soundcard. That USB soundcard is perfect for a laptop or other USB-capable computer.

After you get the above issues addressed, you can use these instructions to cable your player to your PC and convert your radio tape cassettes to PC format.
