Inkjet printer recommendations

Question:

im thinking of getting a nice but inexpensive printer.
any suggestions for me?

Answer:

1) What are you willing to spend? Up to $100? $150? $300?

2) What would you be printing on it? (Text and photos? Just text? Just photos?)

3) How much would you be printing? (A ballpark estimate of pages per week would be helpful.)

Response:

wow i had no idea it could be so complicated!

1) no more than $200… if possible

2) text and photos, yes. printing out homework for school. and a nice color picture prints if needed.

3) for this semester i would probably be printing out a couple pages of B&W text per week. color photos every once in a while maybe? (it is hard to know what i need exactly for school, since there are new projects given all the time. the printers at school are super nice. so i could always use those for super-duper things.)

also, if it had a scanner on it that would be an awesome bonus! not required tho.

Answer:

Okay, here are some options for good inkjet printers. From personal and professional experience, I’m recommending a bunch of Epson brand printers:

Printer 1: Epson Sylus CX8400 Color Printer

The 8400 is a cheaper printer. No integrated scanner. Good quality text and photo printing. Will also read your camera memory sticks directly. It’s physically pretty small.

Printer 2: Epson Stylus Photo R380 Inkjet Printer

The R380 is a great mid-level printer. No integrated scanner. Good quality text and photo printing. Will also read your camera stick directly. I own the Epson Stylus R320 myself (an older relative of this one), and have been extremely happy with it.

Printer 3: Epson RX680 Photo All In One Printer

The Epson RX680 is rockin’. It’s an inkjet printer with a built-in flatbed scanner. Very good quality text and photo printing. It also prints pretty fast. The only issue you may be concerned with is that it’s physically pretty big, due to the integrated scanner.

Note that all of these are inkjet printer recommendations, not laser printers. Note that you’ll also have to purchase a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer.
