How to add a file to the iTunes library

Question:

I need your help. I have not used Audacity for awhile, and have forgotten how to get my recordings into iTunes. I record..hit stop..go to files and click on export as wave files. But then what? When I try to playback it wants to play with windows media player. Before, I knew how to load into iTunes but I have forgotten how…HELP!

Answer:

So you want to know how to import a file into iTunes?

To import something into iTunes, do the following:

1) Open iTunes.

2) In the iTunes “File” menu, choose “Add file to library“.

3) In the window that appears, browse to find your previously-saved WAV file. Select it.

4) You may see a window telling you that the file will be converted in order to properly add the file to your iTunes library. Click to accept.

…after doing the steps above, your saved WAV file will be added to your iTunes library.

I converted some cassette tapes to wav files, put them in my iTunes library and even burned a CD from one to be sure all was OK. Then I copied them to my iPod. When I went to play them this morning, nothing appeared in the iPod. FYI, I copied the entire tape, using an auto-reverse player, as one track, if that makes any difference. I followed all the usual steps to add something to my iPod nd it all went without a hitch. Is the format wrong for iPod, maybe? My computer is a PowerMac G5 running the latest OS. I used only Audacity in converting the audiotape. Thanks for any help.

I downloaded audacity and lame-it works great. I recorded from a cassette tape. I exported it in both .wav and .mp3 When I go into my itunes to Import File, nothing happens. I also tried to drag it into itunes-that doesn’t work either. What am I missing?
