Web-based email
Question:
I would like to be able to access my email while we are on our cruise. I printed out instructions for Outlook Express but am not sure I fully understand it.
Answer:
Unless you’re bringing a laptop on your cruise, you don’t want to use Outlook Express to access your email (long story, but I’d be happy to explain).
Your internet service provider (Comcast, AOL, etc) has directions for you to access your email from a web page, so you can read it from any PC (like on the cruise’s computers). Look for instructions for this. It’s usually as easy as going to a specific web page, clicking the “read mail” button and typing in your username and password.
Be sure to practice this on your own PC at home to make sure it works. After you’re able to do this, you should be able to do the same thing from almost any other PC with a connection to the Internet.
Note to those using Outlook Express (or those using POP servers to access their email): This web-based email interface will allow you to email others, as well as read NEW email. But you won’t be able to see your old mail – that’s only available on your PC.
Make sure that you bring the email addresses of those you know, because your Outlook Express address book won’t be available either.
Again, try it out on your own PC first, so you can use this web-based email, and see exactly what email and contacts you do or don’t have access to.
